If you need to have dental work completed, we recommend visiting a sedation dentist. At A Healthy Smile Dentistry: Yusun Gohard DDS, we offer sedation dentistry for patients living in and around the Florham Park area. We understand that for millions of adults, visiting the dentist can be an overwhelming or frightening experience due to dental anxiety. This common condition typically starts by a negative experience or becoming fearful of the general idea of dentistry. While common, you do not have to be concerned about visiting our dentist office because we can ensure your comfort the entire time.
When you schedule an appointment with A Healthy Smile Dentistry: Yusun Gohard DDS, let us know if you have dental anxiety so that we can prepare for your visit accordingly. For many people, the actual procedure is not uncomfortable but it is the anxiety and worry that causes angst. With this in mind, we often prescribe an oral sedative or laughing gas that can be administered prior to the appointment to help a person relax. While this is not a pain killer, it eases the fear and relaxes the body so that you can remain peaceful while having teeth cleaned, or dental work performed. While the dosage is different, laughing gas can be used on both children and adults so that all of our Florham Park patients can remain comfortable.
If the thought of dental work makes your heart race, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to “push through it.” At our office, we offer laughing gas (nitrous oxide) to help you feel calm, comfortable, and in control during your visit. You simply breathe it in through a small, comfortable nose mask, and within a few minutes many patients feel lighter, more relaxed, and less bothered by sounds or sensations. You’ll stay awake and able to talk with us, but the appointment feels easier—especially for patients with dental anxiety or a strong gag reflex. When we’re done, we turn off the gas and give you oxygen, and the effects usually wear off quickly so you can get back to your day with more confidence and less stress.

They will make their best effort to find the solution for patients, and they won’t stop their pursuit until the patients are happy. I am a cancer patient, and my mouth has very limited opening due to the radiation to my right side of the face (I had head and neck cancer), and I had urgent dental need. The doctors at Healthy Smile Dentistry worked as a team over time and had my tooth fixed. I am extremely happy. Thank you Healthy Smile Dentistry! What a wonderful group of dentists! First I want to say how nice Dr. Gohard is, she and her staff made me feel comfortable throughout my visit. I went for a Botox session for TMJ. A friend highly recommended this office and I’m glad I came in. I have problems with clenching and grinding my teeth which resulted in terrible headaches and muscle tightness throughout my head and jaw. I always knew about Botox relieving pain but I wasn’t 100% sure I wanted to do it. I finally decided to take my chances and try it. I can’t believe how much relief I got from it. It was my first session and the headaches are gone. The muscle tightness went away and I am so pleased with the results! My only regret is not getting it done sooner! Thank you Dr. Gohard.
Whether you already have missing teeth or you are visiting our dental office and find out that dentures might be a good option for you, every patient may experience a different type of preparation for dentures. First, Dr. Gohard will examine your mouth to see if you need to have any additional teeth pulled before beginning the dentures procedure. If you have only a few remaining teeth and their future doesn’t look promising, we might recommend having them pulled.
Once Dr. Gohard has declared you a good candidate for dentures, she will provide you with a pair of temporary dentures to wear until your permanent ones arrive from the lab. If you recently had teeth pulled, we will need to wait until your gums completely heal to take impressions for your permanent dentures. While you wait for your permanent pair to return from the lab, you will wear temporary dentures which will help you get used to the feeling of wearing them daily. Once your gums are healed from any extractions you had, our dentist in Florham Park will take impressions of your gums.
When your permanent pair of dentures return from the lab, Dr. Gohard will have you try them on to confirm that they fit correctly. If necessary, she will make adjustments so they fit more comfortably. Once the fit is right, you can be on your way.
