Before you can receive dental veneers from A Healthy Smile Dentistry in Florham Park, we must first determine if you are a good candidate for them in the first place. First, veneers require that the patient has good dental health. This means they are free of gum disease, decay, and cavities. If you have any dental issues we recommend having these fixed before you get porcelain veneers. As far as requirements go, that is the main one.
Here are some of the problems that porcelain veneers can address:
We are pleased to offer low-prep veneers at our dental office in Florham Park. Traditional porcelain veneers require that a portion of your enamel is to be removed in order to make room for the veneers to be placed. At A Healthy Smile Dentistry, we offer low prep veneers that cut out this step of the porcelain veneers procedure. This means that we don’t remove any of your enamel to place the veneers. Instead, we opt for thinner veneers so that they fit right without harming your teeth. One of the benefits of this is that if you choose to have your veneers removed, you don’t have to get a replacement set for your teeth.
With traditional methods, if your veneers were removed, your teeth would look rough and discolored. They would also have less enamel to protect them from cavities and bacteria. With our low-prep veneer method, you can have your veneers removed and go back to your old smile without damage if you wish. Our holistic approach to your teeth is meant to produce as little damage as possible to your teeth.
The procedure for porcelain veneers at A Healthy Smile Dentistry is fast and simple. First, you will meet with Dr. Gohard to find out if you’re a good candidate for veneers. This will include a dental exam and discussion of what you hope to achieve with veneers. From there, Dr. Gohard will suggest how many veneers you will need to achieve your goals. Once your veneers shape and shade have been planned, your procedure can be scheduled. If you’re choosing to go with the traditional method for veneers, your teeth will need to be prepped first. This involves Dr. Gohard removing a small amount of your enamel to make room for your veneers. If you’re choosing the low-prep method, this step is skipped.
From there, Dr. Gohard will take impressions of your teeth to be sent to the lab. The lab will construct your permanent porcelain veneers. Once they return from the lab, Dr. Gohard will ensure that they fit and look correct before bonding them over your teeth. Once they are bonded, you are free to go about your day and life with a brand new smile!
After you receive your porcelain veneers in Florham Park, you will need to follow specific instructions to care for them to help their life extend for as long as possible. Your first tip for porcelain veneers care is to maintain your dental health. By brushing and flossing regularly, you can avoid the buildup of plaque and tartar that may cause decay, cavities or gum disease. If you happen to acquire gum disease while you have veneers, it’s likely that your veneers fail and fall off. We also recommend that you visit us every 6 months for your appointment where we clean your teeth and examine your mouth. If we notice any problems with your veneers, we can address them during your routine visit with us.
To extend the life of your veneers, we recommend that you wear a night guard at night if you are prone to clenching or grinding your teeth (bruxism). In addition, we recommend not chewing on ice or other hard foods that can damage your teeth and especially not using your teeth as a tool. Lastly, if you play any contact sports, you should wear a mouth guard to protect your veneers from damage.

Whether you already have missing teeth or you are visiting our dental office and find out that dentures might be a good option for you, every patient may experience a different type of preparation for dentures. First, Dr. Gohard will examine your mouth to see if you need to have any additional teeth pulled before beginning the dentures procedure. If you have only a few remaining teeth and their future doesn’t look promising, we might recommend having them pulled.
Once Dr. Gohard has declared you a good candidate for dentures, she will provide you with a pair of temporary dentures to wear until your permanent ones arrive from the lab. If you recently had teeth pulled, we will need to wait until your gums completely heal to take impressions for your permanent dentures. While you wait for your permanent pair to return from the lab, you will wear temporary dentures which will help you get used to the feeling of wearing them daily. Once your gums are healed from any extractions you had, our dentist in Florham Park will take impressions of your gums.
When your permanent pair of dentures return from the lab, Dr. Gohard will have you try them on to confirm that they fit correctly. If necessary, she will make adjustments so they fit more comfortably. Once the fit is right, you can be on your way.
